Note: Before deleting a mail profile, be sure to check the Outbox for any messages that were created with the "Delay Delivery" option. These need to be saved because they may not get processed from the new profile.
Delete Profile
Delete Outlook Profile in Outlook
- Open Outlook and click on File.
- Select Account Settings > Account Settings.
- Under the Email tab (it should open by default), select the Email account that you wish to remove, then click the Remove button from the task bar
Note: If you get the following Error Proceed to the next step. Otherwise, the removal should have been completed.

- Click OK on the error message
- Go to the Data Files tab

- Click on Add and click OK (It doesn't matter where you save it; you won't use this file anyway).
- Go back to the Email Tab and repeat Step 3 again.
Note: All emails in BYU Exchange Accounts are saved on the Exchange server, so deleting the profile or the email address from Outlook should have no effect on your email. You will still have access to messages, etc. when the email address is reconfigured on your computer.
Delete Outlook Profile Using Control Panel
Another - and perhaps easier - way to delete an email account can be done by following these steps:
- Go to Start > Control Panel (If you don't see Control Panel, Search for it by typing).
- Select Mail.

- Click Show Profiles

- Select the mail profile you would like to remove and click Remove
Archived Files
If you are deleting a profile, Archived files will no longer show up when you reconfigure the profile, but they will still be saved wherever the files were saved at originally. (If you can't find them, search your computer for "*.pst" to find all .pst files on your computer. This will show you the location. In Outlook, once the profile has been created, go to File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File, and find the .pst. file. The archived emails should now show up on the left side as another folder next to your inbox.

Add Outlook Account Using Control Panel
- Go to Start > Control Panel (If you don't see Control Panel, Search for it by typing).
- Select Mail.

- Click Add (Note: Control Panel will often auto-populate your Name and Email Address. If that is the case, skip to step 6.)
- Type a name for the profile (e.g. the person's name) and click OK.
- Enter the Name, Email Address, and Password, then click Next.
- Wait while the profile is configured - a pop-up box will prompt for a username and password, so you will need to enter:
- Username: [NetID]@byu.edu
- Password: Net ID password or the generic password
- Note: If the username is not in the correct format of [NetID]@byu.edu, the login box will cycle endlessly. Make sure that you enter it in correctly. (If you have entered the username incorrectly, click Use different account to change it.)
- Once it's done, click Finish.
