Redirecting Users to the Proper Office for help in finishing endorsements

Certain offices will help you finish your endorsement depending on your status. These are:

  • Continuing BYU student, contact the Honor Code Office (call 801-422-2847, email hco@byu.edu, or visit https://honorcode.byu.edu/).

  • Students who can't register, contact the registration office.
  • New Applicant, contact the BYU admissions office.
    • If that office referred you to BYU OIT, contact the Technology Support Center (801-422-4000 or it@byu.edu), who will create an incident for the OIT-AppEng-CES Apps team.

BYU OIT can help with basic account recovery and Church Account Federation Errors, but otherwise go directly to the Admissions Office or the Honor Code Office.

Who can use the Ecclesiastical Endorsement System?

The following can use the Ecclesiastical Endorsement System:

How Can the Student Check Their Endorsement Status?

Students can check their endorsement status by checking underneath their profile at mymap.byu.edu under the Ecclesiastical Endorsement section.

If you are already a student at BYU and sent in successful continuing endorsement request, but MyMap doesn't reflect the submission after some time, contact the honor code office to check the status. There are multiple errors that may have occurred throughout the process, such as name misspelling, etc., that the honor code office can assist with.

If you are an applicant that believes you have successfully submitted an endorsement request, but are still having errors, contact BYU enrollment services.

The Technology Support Center (801-422-4000 or it@byu.edu) may also be able to help you check the status of your ecclesiastical endorsement by going to endorse.byu.edu/admin.

Error Pop-Up on Endorse.byu.edu

If there is an error on the page, this is caused by the church system not responding to the endorsement site. This error will only go away when the church system begins responding again.

If the error persists (it doesn’t go away after several hours and the Church system is not down), contact the Technology Support Center (801-422-4000 or it@byu.edu), making sure to give them your BYU ID/netID and the kind of endorsement you are requesting (applicant or a registered, continuing student). They will assign the incident to OIT-AppEng-CES Apps.

How do Missionaries get an Endorsement?

Missionaries may request an endorsement through endorse.byu.edu. When they request their endorsement, the Church system will send requests for currently-service missionaries to their mission president, and requests for returned missionaries will be sent to their unit of record. For this reason, it is critical that the missionary makes the request themselves after they have linked the Church account associated with their membership record to their BYU account.

If a missionary has left the mission field and is not endorsed, they must interview with their bishop and stake president.

Missionaries should have filled out deferment paperwork before leaving, if not, they should call Admissions.

If a missionary is applying to BYU for the first time while serving a mission, they still interview with the mission president but have to do the regular Admissions applications.

If the missionary is having problems with the website not functioning properly, proceed to do normal browser compatibility troubleshooting. (Trying a different browser, clearing the cache and cookies.)

Answer / Issue

What's the website URL?X endorse.byu.edu

Note: You will go to a page that gives many choices. Make sure that you choose the correct one. The process is not the same for new applicants as it is for continuing (current) students.
What do I do if myMAP says I am a Continuing Student, but the Continuing Student system says I am not?X If your endorsement is not current for more than two semesters, you must reapply as a new student.
I can't log inX You must have a NET ID to log in.
I attend another Ward that is not my official ward.  Can I have that Bishop do my interview and Endorsement? XThe Ecclesiastical Endorsement can only be given by the Bishop of the Ward in which your Membership records can be found. See this article for more information.
I asked for an endorsement but I'm graduating soon and don't need one for next year.X Visit with your priesthood leader so they know your situation.
I'm working on some issues with my Bishop, what should I do? XRequest an endorsement and let your bishop know that you are wanting to get an endorsement.
I'm not a Latter-day Saint. What should I do?X

New Students First Time Endorsement: Once a non-Latter-day Saint student has accepted the Honor Code, they will be taken to a screen that asks them 3 questions, of which they will choose one: 1) I am a Latter-day Saint (not applicable to non-Latter-day Saint), 2) I am not a Latter-day Saint but want to be interviewed by a Latter-day Saint bishop (of which they will go through the same process as a Latter-day Saint student by picking a Unit and Leader), or 3) I am not a Latter-day Saint and want to be interviewed by my own ecclesiastical leader (choosing this will take them to a page with a link to a form that needs to be printed by the student, filled out by the ecclesiastical leader, then sent to BYU by the student).

Continuing Students: Non-Latter-day Saint students are to be endorsed by (1) the local ecclesiastical leader if the student is an active member of the congregation, (2) the Bishop of the Latter-day Saint Ward in which they currently reside, or (3) the nondenominational BYU chaplain.

Do I have to have an interview? XYes. Using the online process will save you and the Bishop from paper forms, but you still need to have a personal interview.
I am a current BYU student who is applying to Graduate Studies, may I use this website?X Yes, current BYU students may use this site to apply to Grad Studies. However, although you are a continuing student in BYU's undergraduate program, you must submit an endorsement request as a new Applicant in order to apply to Grad Studies.
Can applicants and students turn in a paper Endorsement form?X

Students and leaders are encouraged to use the online system (endorse.byu.edu).

If an applicant needs to use the paper form, they can print it from their status page. If they cannot go online at all, the student can contact the Admissions Office (801-422-4104) to request a paper form.

Exceptions include applicants who live in remote/foreign locations where online endorsements are not allowed or possible, as well as non-Latter-day Saint applicants whose ecclesiastical leader would to fill out a paper form (can be mailed to the Admissions office).

Should I select continuing endorsement?X

Only current students at BYU should select "Continue enrollment at BYU." If you are applying to BYU and selecting to continue, an error will occur that will not allow the endorsement request to be completed.

If issues persist, please contact the Technology Support Center (801-422-4000 or it@byu.edu).
