Grader is a tool within Learning Suite that allows instructors to view, annotate, and grade assignments and documents uploaded by students, as well as providing feedback on the assignment through Learning Suite.
Note: The viewer in the Learning Suite grader is not meant to be 100 percent identical to the original document. The viewer converts documents from their original format (like Word) to PDF and then displays it. Whenever you convert from one format to another you will have differences. The converter may or may not be able to replicate the original fonts etc. The only way to do this would be the instructor needs to download the document and view it in the application the student created it in.
Accessing Grader
Grader can be accessed multiple ways:
- From the Scores tab:
- Click on the paper icon next to an uploaded assignment. This will open the grader for that particular student's assignment.

- Click on the drop-down menu next to the assignment title, then click "Open Grader." This opens grader for that particular assignment for all students.

- From the Originality Check tab, click on a particular assignment to see a list of the students who submitted files for that assignment. To access Grader, click on the Grade Now link in the far right.

Using Grader
The Grader window will look like this:

- Use the Assignment drop down to choose which assignment you're looking at.
- The Student section allows you to choose which student's submission you are viewing. You can use the arrows or drop-down to choose the next student.
- You can download the file if you so desire.
- You can enter the score. A score entered here will automatically be entered in the BYU Grades Scores tab as well.
- Excuse Scores for a particular assignment by checking the box labeled "Excuse this student".
- Feedback allows you to either type in feedback or upload a file with feedback in it. The student will be able to see the feedback when they view the graded assignment.
- History lets you see what scores have been entered, who entered them, and what date they were entered on. If it states that "ls auto" entered in a grade, that means Learning Suite automatically entered in a 0 according to the settings in BYU Grades.
- Annotation in the top right allows you to highlight text and then leave comments about that specific section. This note will then show up as a yellow tab on the side of the document. You can edit these by clicking on them and then clicking the pencil icon to edit or the trash can icon to delete.
- Notes, at the top, allows you to see all of the notes that have been made and what section of the document they were made in.
- You can close out of Grader using the X in the top right corner.
