Creating a Turnitin assignment in Learning Suite

  1. Create or Edit an assignment, check the "Submit through Learning Suite" checkbox on the General tab.

  2. Click on the Turnitin tab and check the box to use Turnitin on this assignment. Once the assignment has been saved, you can reopen the assignment editor to click the green "Launch Turnitin" button. This will take you to the Turnitin side of the assignment and you can edit the settings there, like enabling PeerMark or using GradeMark.

Use Turnitin

When you choose to use Turnitin, student submissions will be checked for originality against web pages, student papers, and publications. You will also be able to use GradeMark, which allows you to provide electronic feedback directly on the student's assignment with editorial  highlights, comments, and editing marks. Once students have submitted their assignments, you can view the originality reports in the Grades tab under Originality Check.

Turnitin only accepts the following file types: .doc, .docx, .pdf, .ps, .txt, .html, .wpd, .rtf.

PeerMark

Instructors can create and manage PeerMark assignments that allow students to read, review, and evaluate one or many papers submitted by their classmates.

Exclude Bibliographic Materials from Originality Report

This will exclude citations from the Originality report.

Exclude Quoted Materials from Originality Report

This will exclude quoted text from the Originality report.

Allow Students to See Originality Report

This will enable a View GradeMark Report link that will allow the student to access the marked up (reviewed) document after the due date has passed and they have received a score in Gradebook. This link if found by clicking View link to the right of the assignment.

Enable E-Rater Grammar Check

The ETS e-rater engine flags and identifies grammar, usage, mechanics, style, and spelling errors in student papers.

Turnitin Assignment Info

Student assignments are usually accessed and graded directly through the Grader via the Assignments page or the Scores page like all other assignments. Instructors can also interact with a summary list of all Turnitin-enabled assignments in Learning Suite by accessing the Originality Check page under the Grades tab.

Deleting Turnitin Submissions

Professors can no longer delete their student's submissions in Turnitin, but can still delete submissions from the Learning Suite side.

Only a Turnitin Admin may delete submissions from the Turnitin side, so the professor needs to contact Turnitin Support if they want a submission deleted.

An easier work around would be to set up an exception rule for an assignment and allow a specific student to submit multiple times. Then, just have the student specify which attempt they wish to have graded.
