What To Do After Changing Your Password

After resetting your password, remember to update that password anywhere that it is saved. This will include places like email on your phone and tablets, as well as the Eduroam wireless connection on phones, tablets and computers. Failure to update these locations with your new password will lock you out of your Eduroam connection and email since your wireless connection and email on your phone and tablet check for new emails or use the wireless connection all of the time.If you have your password written down somewhere, be sure to write the new password in replacement of the old. A lot of websites and companies will save usernames and passwords for you, so be sure to go into their system and update the password change there.

Password Rules

I did not change my password, but I received an email saying that I did.

User receives an email that their password has been changed on their BYU Account, but not by them.
  1. If the email provides a verification code, then the password has not actually changed.

    • Our system does not record change attempts, only actual changes.

    • This may simply be a mistake. (A user with a similar Net ID may have accidentally tried to reset the wrong password.)

    • If there is concern that the attempt was intentional and malicious, we recommend following the recommendations in step 2.

  2. If the email confirms the password has been changed, please refer to the steps in the following KBs:

    1. Active account - KB0029784

    2. Inactive Accounts - KB0029786
