Students who wish to park in BYU's student parking "Y" or "G" lots are required to register and pay for fall and winter semester parking. Spring/summer parking is free, but students still have to register their cars.
Fall – You can pay after July 1st.
Winter – You can pay after December 1st. (That fee covers December 1st to the end of winter semester.)
No, once you register your vehicle and pay the fee, your license plate is in the digital registration system. When the license plates are scanned by officers, yours will show as having been registered and paid. Check your status by logging into cars.byu.edu/vehicles and viewing your parking privileges in step 1.
The easiest method is to use the BYU Mobile App Parking Feature. You can also use cars.byu.edu. See below for more information about using cars.byu.edu.
Vehicle must be registered to park in unpaid/free lots:
They are called "U" or Unpaid lots. Check maps.byu.edu for the location of all parking lots.
Spring/Summer – All "Y" and "G" lots are free but students must still register their vehicles.
After hours "Open Parking" rules will not change.
All "Y" lots and "U" Lots
All "U" lots, all "Y" lots, and all "G" lots.
Students who are not on-campus residents.
On-campus residents do not need to pay parking fees to park in the "B" or "C" lots, but they may not park in the "Y" or "G" lots.
Wymount and Wyview residents do not need to pay to park in their building lots and "Y" lots if they are an undergraduate student or "G" lots if they are a graduate student.
No. All full- and part-time employees with ACGY privileges will not need to pay for parking. Student employees will pay for parking fees.
If the dependent is driving a car that is registered to an employee, they may park in the "Y" or "G" lots depending upon their status. The child or spouse should definitely not park in the "A" lots as those are intended for employees. Students incorrectly parked will be cited even if the vehicle could be parked in an "A" lot by the employee. If the dependent wants to register their own vehicle, they must pay the $60 fee.
Students may register two vehicles but only park one at a time in a "U," "Y," or "G" (graduate) lots.
Employees may register three vehicles but only park one at a time on campus.
Permanent Vehicle: A car you will regularly park on campus. Students may register two cars and employees may register three.
New Vehicle with Temporary Registration: If you just bought a car and don’t have a license plate, you can temporarily register using the number on the paper plate you were given at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Once you replace it with your real plate, you must enter the real plate's number on the BYU parking registration or risk getting a ticket.
Rental/Borrowed Vehicle: In addition to your Permanent Vehicles, users may temporarily register a borrowed vehicle. Rental/Borrowed vehicles may be parked in the same lots as your permanent vehicle dependent on your student status and if you paid the $60 fee.
No, the fee must be paid before the citation, so if you get one you’ll need to pay the $30 citation plus the $60 parking fee (if you want to park on campus still).
Yes each student should pay the $60 fee ($120 total) unless you know that you will never both park on campus in "Y" or "G" lots at the same time. If two vehicles are detected simultaneously, you will receive a citation.
No. Once you pay for parking, you have a virtual permit for the entire semester. That’s why we are charging for one semester at a time. We want students to have flexibility in case they are not attending the whole year.
No, the fee is $60 per semester.
Return to the parking registration page and check steps 2 and 3. Step 2: Register Vehicle will show the payment and step 3: Pay for Parking will show which lots you can park in.
You will need to complete the New Vehicle Registration for each vehicle you wish to register.
First, you can check the parking privileges for the already registered cars in step 1: Check Privileges. The new vehicle that you register will have the same parking privileges. There is a limit to how many vehicles you can have registered (two for students, three for employees), and only one vehicle can be parking on campus at a time. If you haven’t registered any vehicles yet, move on to step 2.
In step 2: Register Vehicle, click on Add Vehicle. If you have an active vehicle (highlighted in green), you won’t be able to click on this button until you deactivate it.
Fill out the form with your car’s information and hit Submit.
You can also see a list of your inactive vehicles in step 2. You may activate and delete them whenever you choose.
In step 3: Pay for Parking, you must pay for your parking privileges (unless you’re a student who only uses "U" lots or if you live on campus). Follow your way through the payment process. When completed, you should be taken to a payment confirmation page and receive a confirmation email.
You'll see this screen if you have NOT paid for parking privileges for the semester:

BEFORE you park in your designated lots, make sure to check step 1 again to verify which lots you are allowed to park in.

Note: The "one vehicle rule" is universal, regardless of your role at the university. Every employee may only have one active vehicle.
Children of employees can still use free parking, but they may only have one car registered. Children of BYU–Idaho employees do not get free parking at BYU–Provo, and vice versa.
